The 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
The new Sport Trac from Ford is a 4 door, 5 passenger sport utility, available in 8 trims, ranging from the XLT 4.0L 4X2 to the Limited 4.6L 4X4.It accelerates from 0 to 100 in 8.4 seconds.
The XLT Sport Trac model 4.0L 4X2 has a standard 4 liter, V6, 210 horsepower engine coupled with a 5-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. On the other side, the standard engine for the Sport Trac Limited 4.6L 4X4 is a 4.6-liter V-8 that develops 292 horsepower, coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.
The new model from Ford is intended to bridge the gap between a truck and an SUV, being styled to look more like the Ford Explorer SUV. But it is not just a face lift. It has all of the safety features of the Explorer, including roll stability control, but also it features Independent Rear Suspension allowing more cargo volume.
On the road, the Sport Trac proved to be exactly the mix of ride and handling its chassis promises. There’s no bizarre or uncomfortable solid-axle handling traits — no hop, no lateral movement over high-frequency road irregularities. Read the Ford Sport Trac full test
